For over 20 years Strategic Legal Services has provided peerless end-to-end eDiscovery and managed review services to AmLaw 100 law firms, Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, and a host of sterling corporate and legal organizations. Throughout our history, maintaining the security of our clients’ data has been of paramount importance. As the European Union enacts its sweeping data privacy legislation, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on May 25, Strategic is pleased to announce that we have developed and maintained an internal data protection infrastructure that ensures the privacy of our clients’ data in a manner that is compliant with the GDPR. The security and confidentiality protocols we have historically implemented with respect to the data we process (the “processing” of personal data under the GDPR includes our eDiscovery and managed review services) for our clients – both those who maintain a presence in the E.U. as well as those who are not established in the E.U. but process the personal data of E.U. citizens – aligns with the spirit and the letter of the GDPR and its personal data privacy goals.
Strategic is ISO/IEC 27001:2013 certified and also compliant with the 2016 E.U.-U.S. Privacy Shield. These certifications, together with our extensive internal data protection ingestion, storage, monitoring and incident response protocols establish our GDPR compliance at the implementation of this comprehensive personal data protection legislation.
As fines for GDPR violations can equal as much as €20MM or 4% of annual global turnover, Strategic encourages our clients to consult with counsel regarding the GPDR, its applicability and concomitant obligations. As an aid to U.S.-based businesses who may be subject to the GDPR, Strategic is pleased to provide a summary of several of the statute’s significant provisions.
In addition, the following resources may provide insight into the statute and the issues your organization may face beginning May 25th:
